i saw this percussion ensemble in the esplanade library entitled 'dichotomy' by anthony j. cirone. I can't find the track though. it seems cool but pretty tough. we'll have to work on it!

anyway, band practice schedules are as follows:
wednesday - 1540 to 1930
saturday - 0930 to 1245
friday sectionals

we have to wait for the JAE intake to be confirmed before we can get new juniors! presently, there are 2 percussionists trying to appeal but there are only so few appeal slots for the whole band.. the likelihood of them getting into njc is pretty low because of some stupid DSA programme offered by top jcs such that the cut-off point might be lowered.

our repertoire is real boring. i set the theme - Lullabies.

HEy. You guyS lILStenEd to the recordings of our ensembLes yet? pLEase. got somE pointers here. PLEASE take note of them, dun just read and forget. PLEASE, coz we're quite screwed up.

oNe. Balance. it's oBviouS thE balance on the recording was nOT intentional. we were all blasting on that day. so pLease. try and imitate the balance achieved on the recording.. get it? adjust your volume according to it.

two. we are still not listening to each other. please. listen to each other and count so that we can have a tighter ensemble. it is obvious that we are all not counting. COUNT. try to fix that prob kays?

three. starting and ending of each piece is not together. make an effort. our circus2 has a problem, coz everytime, i can't catch the upbeat, its too quick. liKe.. kEna stuNned dio liDat..

four. the transition btwn diff parts of each piece is not smooth. the musicality is not there. please. when you lilsten, you can distinctly hear the difference btwn each section, try and make it fluid.

at the begiNning Chimes, rhythm is wrong. you are playing semiquavers which is not the intended rhythm, try to squash the notes more..

2 bars before A bells, marimba. watch yulin when you come in, coz the notes are messy.

C viBes please come out more

section before 4 bars before D too messy. please clean it up.

H timpani solo, came in late, and please don't rush. listen to the recording. it's pretty obvious. after your solo, when you lead into I, please don't stone kays. Oh. H should be repeated. is that possible? please play your solo starting from the 1st time of H?

bar before M please count your roll. i think before N also. anyways, just please count meticulously.

6th bar of M very messy. the lead up to N and after N is really messy.

K rhythm at K sucks. seriously. we will practise the rhythm until it becomes ingrained in you, coz its messy. by hook or crook, we will get it right.

come on guys! jiayou jiayou! keep the percussion spirit alive in u alright? rmb to play well in an ensemble, u all must think n feel like one. not one drum, not one mallet, not individual. but u are one percussion section. no timbale sound, no timpani sound, no tom sound or whatsoever. we want one percussion sound yes? (: i know u guys can do it and are capable. n make full use of the sound test at SCH. cuz the percussion sectiont ends to sound open there yes? so might kill the balance abit. take care loads guys!

hi i'm back...yesterday when i was playing timpani for s'pore rhapsody, mr ho asked thomas to fix the parts...then thomas told him i'm not staying...i don't know what he said but hope it's alright...
